What To Wear Guide- Tampa Family Photographer

Tampa Family Photographer-KateBoggsPhotography

Hey there!

I am super excited to be able to FINALLY make a blog post to help my incredible clients out when it comes to choosing outfits!

So at first you get this feeling of excitement right? New clothes, new shoes, and new accessories. Pure joy I tell you.

Next comes choices. This is a bit harder. What colors will be your main colors. What patterns are you going to include. What accessories are you going to add that won’t take away from your family. HMM a little panic is starting to set in.

Finally, you are at the mall and you are frantically buying hot pink and because hot pink is so bright you have to balance it with lime green and of course you have to grab the leopard cardigan because leopard is SO in right now, right? YEP, it’s time to take a step back, find this blog post you saved, take a deep breath and let ME help YOU!

Are you ready to change the way you see outfits? YAY! ME TOO!

  1. Hot pink, Lime greens, fluorescent oranges…… OH MY…

So this one was kind of mentioned about, but avoid these. Fluorescents have this terrible habit of sending color casts all over you skin. You know the primary colors, (dark)reds,(deep) blues, (burnt) yellows? Yeah,  those are the types of colors we want to stick with!

2. Logos be gone!

One problem that is a tough one to escape is logos. Logos are on almost everything right now. Keep this in mind while we shoot, that college football team logo on your polo may look AMAZING on game day, but will it look as amazing on a 20X30 canvas…… on your wall….. after they lose?

3. Coordinating Colors my dear Watson.

This is going to go a LONG way for you. Go ahead and choose two to three colors and run with it. So Navy, Red, and Gray then maybe add in a nice pop or color in there. The colors will set each of your family members apart  from on another. Along with this, lets chat about stripes, polka dots, and florals. Okay you got me, lets chat about all patterns. THEY ARE GOOD! They help show your personality a bit! Go on with your bad self!

4.  LAYERING on the compliments.

This is by far one of my favorite topics! Obviously you need to think about the weather, but layering can cover more than just clothing. Think about dressing up your statements with belts, necklaces, bracelets, boots, boot socks, and all of those amazing layering pieces. They add something different and unique to you. Obviously if the weather permits, go all out and grab some long cardigans, vests, puffer coats, pea coats, leggings, stockings, scarves and even possibly earmuffs. Yeah okay your right, we live in Florida. BUT really guys, layering is KEY here!

5. I’ve got my eye on you

One of the BEST pieces of advice I can give you is to start with one persons outfit and build the rest around that. Typically moms outfit is the first one to find. Lets say you have this incredible long wine colored dress you just LOVE on yourself. Great! The hardest part you just completed! Build everyone else’s outfits around your dress!

6. YOLO

You know that green dress you bought for when you drop 10 pounds? Maybe that isn’t the best choice. I know you love it, BUT, if you feel uncomfortable in front of the mirror I can guarantee you that you’ll come off as uncomfortable in your memories, and let’s be honest. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Wear something you are comfortable in, I promise you’ll be happy, I’ll be happy, and we can go for ice cream after!

7. Do your clothes hang low?

So going hand in hand with what I mentioned above, make sure that your clothes fit your family! I promise you that if you buy Timmy a shirt that is a size 5 when he is clearly a 3 for the sake of him growing into it, is not going to work well. Typically it comes off as careless and a bit sloppy! My advice? If you’re thinking about grabbing a blazer or anything that should be tailored, buy a size smaller than usual.

8. Do you have the time?

Classic timeless outfits are always a good idea. When in doubt think about how it will look in 10 years. Will you want it hanging in your house 10 years from now? You make that call!

So we all know our kids LOVE a certain t-shirt or a pair of shoes. They choose that one article of their outfit every day. That is something they love right now. I will tell you right now, our session will go a lot more smoothly if you bring that with you and let me shoot them in it even for a couple of shots at the end. PLUS their personality will come through and isn’t that the whole point?

This is the dreaded wormhole. Not every member in your family has to have on every color you choose. This is a tough habit to break. Don’t think of your outfits as if they are uniforms and they have to be the same, think more along the lines of defining the colors and the patterns. If you split the colors up you create a more even atmosphere within the photos! tampa, wesley chapel, florida, family photographertampa, wesley chapel, florida, family photographertampa, wesley chapel, florida, family photographertampa, wesley chapel, florida, family photographer
