Tampa Child Photographer | The Pumpkin Patch

I’m always unsure of if it’s appropriate to post personal things on this blog, but then ignore that thought and do it anyway. I mean, let’s be honest, if you want to hire me it’s usually because I have a family, and I’m not afraid to talk about them! That IS why, right?

Before I had Pipsqueak, I never really looked at girl clothes, or ideas, or any of the above. I kind of just skimmed by them. I was a boy mom, after all. But after having Pip, things changed. I got great ideas about outfits and shoot concepts. I’m going to let everyone in on a secret here, I actually made a note in my phone of all of the shoot ideas that I wanted to achieve. Some of them I deleted after re-reading them, while others stuck to the note like glue. One of which was a plaid coat, with a fur ball cable knit hat, fall harvest time, and calf height brown boots. Two years ago I started buying those clothing pieces as they came to me. A coat from a consignment shop in size 12-24, boots from target on after christmas clearance last year, a cable knit hat on clearance in the summer from an outdoors store. I went all out, Ya’ll.

Finally it all came together. Seriously guys. Dressing her up at home was legit making my eyes water that I would get to check this idea off my list. We get ready to leave the house and immediately it dawns on me…. We live in Florida…. AAANNNNDDDDD my kid is in a wool coat, a cable knit hat, jeans, and calf high leather boots…. It was 90 degrees outside…

Here is where I would like to tell you that I was a good parent and said ‘forget it. I don’t want to make my babe going out in all of these clothes for a few pictures.’ Now mind you I said ‘I would LIKE to tell you’ I decided not to do it. But in reality, I needed this shot. It was what dreams were made of. So we trekked to the pumpkin patch, I shot those pictures, despite all of the side eyes, looks, and eye rolls. GUYS.. Pure magic happened. Although Pip did not enjoy being sweaty, nor did she enjoy having to stay still. But I was able to get a few of the exact shots I envisioned. In the end, I decided to just let her do what she wanted.  And she did. While little miss was obsessed with her big brother and was never further than 3 feet from him, she still let me capture some important moments for me to hold onto forever.

Can we also talk about Becksa and his outfit? This little man is after my heart, I tell yah. That hat? SWOON. At one point during shooting, I saw him helping her stand on the pallets to pick the best pumpkins. While I was way way too involved in the moment and didn’t get any shots, I did get the immediate after shot of harpers boot getting stuck and beck LAUGHING like a maniac at his sisters demise. What did he say while she was stuck, you ask? “Serves you right for stealing my lego heads.” I. Just. Can’t.

In the end, Kate-1 , florida summer-0.
